Michele Hay 2009-2010 Although it is still hard to believe that my tenure as president has finally begun, I am eager to lead the league down a journey of community impact and member enrichment. We have many reasons to celebrate this year. First of all, we can be proud to say that we have survived a major natural disaster, have helped revive our community, and have begun to thrive as a league. To my fellow league members, I am confident that we will continue down this path of recovery, united in our mission. It is time to move forward! This year also marks the 60th anniversary of our membership in the Association of Junior Leagues International. I am very proud to have participated in 8 of those 60 years. During this time, I have served under 8 inspiring women, all committed to our mission, each with their own, unique leadership style. To Susan Gregory, M’Linda Lasswell, Kim Colombo, Terri Burchfield, Doryn Glenn, Libbie Ansell, Kelly Johns and Marjorie Kovacevich – thank you for your leadership, your friendship and your commitment to the league and our community. I have learned something valuable from each of you, which have helped guide me to where I am today. I hope that I can continue this legacy of inspiring future leaders. This year we also implement a change in our organizational structure, from a board system to a council system – with goals for a streamlined approach to communication and training within our organization. I ask for your patience as we learn together, the best way to implement this system. To the council VPs, I am so very thankful to have you as part of our leadership “team”. Your support of me, our mission, and strategic goals confirm that you were indeed an excellent choice for your positions. You have worked diligently over the summer to plan a year, full of training and education for our members. Another reason to celebrate is that after several hundred recipes tested and tasted, our cookbook, Beachside to Boardwalk is set to be completed and sent to the publisher this fall, allowing for a summer arrival. Our palettes await! We also have two new projects, Jr. Junior Leaguers and Girls on the Run that will be implemented this year. These projects are geared towards teaching and instilling the value of volunteering and improving self esteem among young girls. I am confident that these projects will be very successful and am eager to see them unfold. Having two middle school-aged daughters myself, I understand the importance of these projects in not only creating future volunteers but developing the potential of young women! I hope you all are as eager as I am to move forward! Together, we can make a difference!
Fondly,
Michele Hay
