Junior League of Galveston County, Inc. Announces Sisters-in-Laws, Lori Carnes and Kelly Carnes Johns as 2016 Holiday Ball Honorees

Galveston County, Texas– On May 9, 2016, The Junior League of Galveston County, Inc., (JLGC) announced sisters-in-law Lori Carnes and Kelly Carnes Johns of Texas City, Texas, as its 2016 Holiday Ball Honorees.

As a Past President, Holiday Ball Chairs, and active Sustainers, these two women exemplify what the JLGC is all about as they continue serving Galveston County both through their volunteerism and everyday jobs.

Lori joined JLGC in 1998 and served on several committees, including Holiday Ball.  She was also the Chairman of the Cookbook Committee and was one of the contributors to our cookbook, Beachside to Boardwalk.

After transitioning to sustainer status, Lori has continued to serve her community in big ways.  She is the Past President of the Santa Fe/Hitchcock Rotary Club, Past President of the Board for the Perry Family YMCA, and Past President of the Rotary Ann’s of Texas City.  Lori has served on the Board of Directors for the Hitchcock Chamber of Commerce and on the Board of Directors for the Texas City/La Marque Chamber of Commerce.  Lori is also the Past President of the Hospice Care Team, where she has continued to play a huge part. She and her husband own and run Carnes Funeral Home in Texas City.

Kelly joined the League in 1997, and has served as Holiday Ball Chair and was happy to have Lori on her committee that year.  Kelly was also a contributor to the Beachside to Boardwalk cookbook. Most notably, Kelly served as President for the 2007-2008 League year.  During that year, the League celebrated the TA Building’s 75th year, had the first Family Picnic for members and their families, and joined the Chamber of Commerce.

As a sustaining member, Kelly has continued to actively serve the community at her church, First Baptist Church Texas City, and in her school district.  At church, she chairs the Women’s Ministry, is the assistant director of the children’s summer Sports Camp and Camp Sonshine, and selflessly spends summers investing in the lives of teenagers with her husband who is the Youth Minister there.  Kelly was the Treasurer of Project Graduation for Class of 2011 and the President of Project Graduation for the Class of 2016. One of her greatest pleasures is serving as Faculty Sponsor for Redefining Beautiful, which is a club at Texas City High School that empowers young women to resist stereotypes based on appearance and empowers young men to treat women with respect and act like gentlemen.  Kelly is the Lead Speech-Language Pathologist for Texas City and La Marque School Districts.

JLGC invites you to join us at our 65th Annual “Fire and Ice” Holiday Ball honoring Lori Carnes and Kelly Johns on Saturday, December 10, 2016, at The Galveston Island Convention Center at the San Luis Resort.
