Junior League of Galveston, Inc. Inspires Health and Positivity
Galveston, Texas – On Tuesday, November 27 in League City and Wednesday, November 28 in Galveston, The Junior League of Galveston County, Inc. (JLGC) will end its fifth season Girls on the Run (GOTR) with a 5k.
GOTR is a unique running program that teaches girls the significance of positive self image, nutrition and owning the ability to make their own decisions. Coached by 15 volunteers, ten of whom are members of the JLGC, the girls spend two days a week learning life lessons.
After each work-out, the girls process the topic of the day, give energy awards to their peers, and enjoy a healthy snack. Every practice ends with a hearty “Girls on the run is so much fun!!”
“The girls learn so much during this program. The ultimate goal is to run a 5k at the end of the 10-12 week season, however it is disguised by teaching the girls that anything is possible and to keep pushing themselves no matter what,” said Laura Flowers, Girls on the Run Chair. “They learn how gossiping hurts everyone, that it is their choice to have a positive attitude. The program is so great and the girls really respond and are eager to share and learn.”
