Junior League of Galveston County, Inc Focuses on Children and Education

Galveston County, Texas – Through the generous support of its donors and volunteers, The Junior League of Galveston County, Inc. (JLGC) is able to fill needs around Galveston County that help fulfill its mission of promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.

Adopt-a-School, one of JLGC’s ten community projects, contributes hundreds of hours towards a different elementary school in Galveston County each year. The school is chosen each year based on the percentage of students in need.

This year’s selected school is InterCity Elementary in La Marque.

“The school has been so appreciative,” says Lynsey Ginsberg, Adopt-a-School Chair. “I feel we have been very effective in our mission there this year.”

To date, the Adopt-a-School committee has donated school supplies, help put money towards the purchase uniforms for children in need, facilitated a Valentine’s craft project for every first grade class, and volunteered weekly assistance to check-in and shelve books in the library so that the students are able utilize the library at it’s fullest potential.

Looking ahead, Adopt-a-School will work to organize a mid-year supply donation to meet the immediate needs of InterCity Elementary.

One of the most exciting events, the Scholastic Book Distribution, will allow JLGC to donate a book to every single child in the school.

Without the support of its volunteers and donors, none of this would be possible. For more information on Adopt-a-School and the Junior League of Galveston County, please visit www.jlgalveston.org or call (409) 765-7646.
