22 Nov JLGC to Host Annual Holiday Charity Ball Honoring Karen Flowers
Galveston County, Texas – On Saturday, December 14, 2013, from 7 pm to 11:30 pm, the Junior League of Galveston County, Inc. will take guests to the French Quarter for “A Big Easy Holiday” at The San Luis Convention Center in Galveston. This annual gala is JLGC’s largest fundraiser essential in funding the important work that league members do to improve our community. Proceeds from this event help support our efforts in health, education, and community through our projects like Adopt-A-School, Junior League College Scholarships, Kids in the Kitchen, Patient Perks, Jr. Junior Leaguers, Community Assistant Fund, Outreach Opportunity, and Creating Connections.
This year, the JLGC is honoring Karen Flowers, a leader and philanthropist who has served the Galveston community for many years. She is a Sustaining Member of the Junior League as well as an award-winning realtor and teacher. Karen served on the board of directors for Children’s Advocacy Center, was fundraising chair and president with Ronald McDonald House she was Decorations & Silent Auction Chair for American Heart Association Black Tie Gala. Karen was Co-Chair & Chair with Galveston Island Humane Society, she served as Chair with UTMB School of Nursing, and she was on the board of directors for Galveston Association of Realtors.
“When you walk into this Crescent City Celebration, I hope you will experience the bits and pieces of New Orleans culture that make the city so unique,” said JLGC Holiday Ball Chair, Lindsay Perez. “From body art, piano music, art, beignets, beads, masks and a Jazz band, the night should be full of lively rhythm and spirit!”
This year’s silent auction will feature many special auction items! One live auction item in particular will be a puppy up for adoption at the Galveston Island Humane Society. This puppy will make its debut and go home with a loving family the night of the ball! Other featured auction items include a guitar and “swag” signed by Kenny Chesney, as well as a gorgeous David Yurman ring donated by Lewis Jewelers.
