Adopt a School

The Adopt a School Committee contributes hundreds of hours purchasing, organizing and distributing school supplies for the entire student body at two elementary schools in Galveston County. A new school for both Galveston Island and the mainland is selected every three years, based on the percentage of students in need. The committee provides Reading is Fundamental (RIF) book distributions to the students throughout the school year as well as school support with volunteer help throughout the year at events (meet the teacher night, book fair, science fair, etc.)

Many school-aged children in our community suffer from food insecurity.  These students eat most of their meals while at school, provided by free or reduced lunch programs. However, this frequently doesn’t provide enough food for weekends, long holidays, and the summer months.

To combat this problem, the JLGC fills backpacks with food for 50 children at LA Morgan in Galveston.  These students take the backpack home with them over the weekend to ensure they have something to eat.

The current Adopt a School campuses are LA Morgan (Galveston) and Haley Elementary (mainland).
